The books are nearly here! Just ordered the final proofs and will have a look at them within the week. 

This is a photobook with images by Ethan Killian. I hope to continue the Repressionism concept by providing you with a marker and blank pages within the book to allow you to participate further.

There are two editions available. The standard and the limited. The standard is all black and white and retails for $25. The limited edition will be 108 signed and numbered copies in full color and retail for $50.

REPRESSIONISM was a great success! We had over 30 people brave (or wealthy) enough to participate. We had hundreds of spectators. We had thousands of experiences...

And they're still continuing! We've recorded vast amounts of the show on film and in photographs. We're in the gathering and editing process right now. Posts will continue to follow as everything is processed.

REPRESSIONISM

ARTIST STATEMENT

Repressionism is a conceptual art piece. Conceptual art is a medium that deals in ideas and is more interested in the experienceof art than the visual aspect of it.
 
Repressionism is not a random smattering of models. I’ve gathered models to represent traditional, non-traditional, and individual relationships. The models have been blindfolded to keep them from knowing what you and I are projecting onto them. In this way we’re visually and physically representing the idea that we, in these relationships, are blind to the ideas being put on us by society. I’ve chosen permanent markers as well so that we become more careful in what we project and to represent how difficult it is to rid ourselves of these projections.
 
More than anything, Repressionism is an exploration of art. What it means to be an artist. What it means to be a viewer. What it means to be a subject. What it means to be art. Repressionism will allow you to experience all of these on many levels. Keep an open mind as you view and interact with the models. Explore your emotions and try to see how you fit into these varied rolls.

It's been a challenge to find models that are excited about the REPRESSIONISM concept and motivated to become a piece of living art. 
I'm pleased to have come across Julia and to have her join the cast that is slowly coming together. Be sure to stop by the show and leave your impressions on Saturday the 11th.

the CONCEPT// repressionism

A few people have been asking me what the concept of REPRESSIONISM is and what the show will consist of. The following is my response:

Repressionism is a conceptual art piece that seeks to explore what it is we project (as society and individuals) on people representing various intimate relationships. 

The relationships presented will be that of a straight, gay, and lesbian couple as well as an individual. 

The models will be mostly nude, blindfolded and bound to each other. In this they will become a blank canvas for us to uninhibitedly project our thoughts, inspirations, doodles, imaginations, and expositions on without the threat or fear of judgement. 

Sharpies (permanent markers) will be provided for you to interact with the art in a way that is non traditional and more personal. You will be drawing directly on the bodies of the models! You will be the artist! You will be the art!

We will be documenting the event and taking REPRESSIONISM across the country to see how various communities respond to the same concept. 

To recap:

• Live models will pose as couples and individuals.
• You and I will draw and write on the bodies according to what inspires us.
• Art will be documented and added to a collective of REPRESSIONISM from across the country.

I'm excited to present another local musician that will be performing at the show, Christian Coleman.
 
Christian is a native to Utah and has been performing for 20 years. He plays folk/blues/americana style on a variety of guitars and harmonica.

the MODELS// the traditional couple

Introducing the first models to sign up for REPRESSIONISM, Nick James & Katie Kuhlman.
 
Nick & Katie are the happiest couple I've ever met with plans for a future that boggle my mind (house, marriage, kids, etc).
 
Nick is a local artist/illustrator (http://nickjam.es) who moved out here last year to pursue a relationship with Katie.
 
Katie works at the U of U's Neuropsychiatric Institute who moved here 5 years ago and has become somewhat of a local celebrity after winning last year's IN THIS WEEK magazine's SEXY IN SLC competition.
 
They are the quintessential "perfect" couple and will be a great subject for the show.
